Students in the Early Childcare Assistant program explore the challenging role of care provider and the rewarding involvement of being with children in a childcare or early learning centre. Theoretical, in-class training is complemented by an in-depth comprehensive placement in a childcare facility.

Early Childcare Assistants plan and aide with meal time, supervise children at playtime and during rest periods. Early Childcare Assistants also lead children in activities through stories and songs, preparing craft material, preparing and serving snacks, and guiding and assisting children in the development of proper hygiene habits.

Early Childcare Assistants attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems with children and they help the supervisor in keeping records, maintaining day care equipment and with housekeeping duties.
